Summer

I haven't written in a long time. I have no good excuse this time. I just didn't want to.

It's time to whip myself into shape.

For the month January of 2008 I put myself on a modified raw food diet...a 30 day challenge of sorts. Everything I ate for 30 days (minus 5 cheating meals I allowed up front) was raw with the exception of hummus. My diet consisted of raw fruits and veggies, fresh carrot juice, and raw nuts. It was a really good experience. I ate as much as I wanted (I'm not good at moderation). My appetite decreased. I felt really good. And I lost 8 pounds.

It's time to try that again. Based upon my experience last time, I'm going to make a couple of changes to my modified raw food diet.

First, for dinner I'm going to allow myself to eat any salad, within reason, that doesn't have a creamy dressing. That will include salads with beans, hard-boiled eggs, and even wheat products like bulgar and noodles (though I might draw the line at bread salads...we'll see). This should dramatically increase the variety in my diet and make it easier for my sexy husband to eat with me. (Last time I actually cooked him full separate meals. This time I'll just grill him a supplemental piece of chicken or make him some mac and cheese or something.)

And second, I'm not going to be quite as legalistic this time. The purists of the raw food community would scoff and say that I'm ruining the whole thing, but I'm not going to worry about whether my nuts have been roasted or not. I like roasted nuts.

Anyone up for the challenge? Mine will start Sunday, July 5.

Oh! And since I'm going to be eating a lot of salads, I'd appreciate any suggestions you wish to share.

Katie, I love the concept but don't think I could pull it off ... I'm such a wimp and so reliant on tortilla chips and cheese.

Be sure to post as many of your salad recipes as you find the time to, though, and I'll follow along with that!

hmm... I'm seriously considering it for the moment... the moment might not last, but I am craving more simplicity in my diet.

I'll keep you updated...
